Rhody Oldies Hockey Club Presents Scholarship Awards To Two Smithfield High School Students
SMITHFIELD, RI – June 2, 2025 – The Rhody Oldies Hockey Club has awarded scholarships to two outstanding Smithfield High School student-athletes who excel both on the ice and in the classroom.
Jacob Hopkins and Meghan Hall received the annual Rhody Oldies Scholarship Awards, continuing the club's tradition of supporting local hockey players. The scholarships recognize Smithfield High School students who demonstrate strong academic performance alongside their athletic achievements.
The Rhody Oldies Hockey Club is comprised of hockey players aged 60 and older who hit the ice three times a week at the Smithfield Municipal Ice Rink. The club members' passion for the game runs deep—and so does their commitment to helping young players succeed.
“Jacob and Meghan represent everything we love about the sport of hockey,” said Mike Gilroy, club president. “These two student-athletes have earned this recognition through their hard work and character on and off the ice.”
Both Hopkins and Hall play for Smithfield High School’s hockey teams and have maintained strong grades throughout their high school careers. The scholarships will help support their future educational goals.
The Rhody Oldies plan to continue the scholarship program next year, staying true to their mission of giving back to the local hockey community that has given them so much enjoyment over the years.
